Abstract

Students offer a sight both towards society and to the core of creative academic scope. They represent a segment of the population and also an academic canvas. This dichotomy is reflected in the creative outcome guided in academic spectrum. On the one hand, these typologies show the social ?taste? for beauty and society?s view upon interior architecture and design. On the other hand, they show guided directions and academic accepted models. Interior architecture didactic projects of 4th-year architecture students are analyzed. The theme of the project is designing a coffee shop in the city center of Cluj-Napoca in the old hotel New-York. Based on specific criteria there are defined categories of projects depending on common features. The main direction of the study is the contamination with the city`s identity and its public spaces design. Analytical and quantitative methods are used. In comparison with the local designed public spaces about 50 interior design student projects are analyzed. The recurrent common concepts are grouped five typologies. The results broaden the understanding of social design preferences and accepted models both in academic field and in the local economy. Moreover, the results offer an understanding about the young courage to detach from the local models of success, experiment and express their uniqueness.
