GEOLOGY OF THE MAIN INDUSTRIAL TYPES OF COPPER ORE DEPOSITS IN KAZAKHSTAN
Abstract
Kazakhstan has rich reserves of copper. Stratiform copper sandstones and copper-porphyry deposits are the main industrial types of copper ore: The largest deposit of copper sandstones is Zhezkazgan (Central Kazakhstan), and Aktogay is a large deposit of copper-porphyry type (east Kazakhstan). This article describes these two deposits. The Republic of Kazakhstan is one of the world's most important provinces on reserves of copper. In Kazakhstan, there are large deposits of copper, as well as mining companies and steel mills. Extraction of copper ore and copper production are carried out in the fields of Central and Eastern Kazakhstan. The leading copper mining is central Kazakhstan, where developed a unique copper reserves of Zhezkazgan deposit. The second most important region - Eastern Kazakhstan, where copper mining is carried out mainly from complex ores of polymetallic deposits.Mining areas of Kazakhstan, in which there are major industrial deposits of copper, are: Zhezkazgan (Karaganda region), Aktogay (East Kazakhstan region), Boschekul-Maykaiyn (Pavlodar region), Rudny Altay (East Kazakhstan region), South Dzungar (Almaty region),Kendyktas (Zhambyl region) and Mugodzhary (Aktobe region). The main commercial value in the balance of reserves and copper mining in Kazakhstan is currently owned by stratiform deposits of copper sandstone, which accounted for 51.0% of the total explored reserves. The leading position is also occupied by porphyry copper (26.5%) and copper pyrite (14.5%) field. Secondary role veined quartz-sulfide (6.8%) and skarn (1.1%) field. Deposits with stringer-disseminated copper mineralization, refers to a porphyry copper type, is a large deposit of Aktogay. Stratiform deposits of copper sandstone in siliceous-carbonate formations is Zhezkazgan.
