Abstract

The article is devoted to the results of hydrometeorological research of the Black Sea, carried out on a stationary oceanographic platform located near the Southern Coast of Crimea at a distance of 600 m from the shore. The author represents a complex developed at Marine Hydrophysical Institute, for measuring such hydrometeorological parameters as wave height, wind speed and wind direction, atmosphere and sea temperatures, atmosphere pressure, relative humidity. In order to measure the wave heights the twisted resistive wave gage was used with a sampling resolution of 4 Hz and the possibility of registering wave heights up to 10 m. The wind speed and wind direction sensor was located at a height of 21 m; its sampling resolution was 0.2 Hz. The wind speed was adjusted from the height of 21 m to the standard observation height by a formula assuming the presence of a logarithmic sublayer. On the bases of the analyses of more than 35,000 hour records of wind parameters and more than 20,000 wave records during 2011-2015 the regime and extreme wind-wave characteristics for the studied area were estimated. The analysis revealed that the most frequent (40 - 69%) are the gentle breeze (up to 5 m / s) and the N winds dominate in all groups of wind speeds. The monthly average height of waves was 0.15-0.22 m in summer months and 0.5 m пїЅ in winter months. The maximum wave heights during the storms reached 2.4 m in summer and 6.4 m in winter. The most frequent during the summer months were smooth waves (0.1 m <Hs <0.5 m), during the winter months пїЅ slight waves (0.5 m <Hs <1.25 m). Maximum wave height during 1-hour observation in the vast majority of cases exceeds 1,9 times the significant wave height.
