5 ROUNDABOUTS FOR 5 LANDSCAPES: PROJECT FOR URBAN RIQUALIFICATION
Abstract
In 2010, the municipality of Senigallia, located in Marche region (Italy), approved the Green Masterplan, drafted by the Department of Agricultural Sciences together with the Department of Territorial Planning of the Alma Mater Studiorum of Bologna, in collaboration with four architects, two agronomists, and few communal technicians, with the aim of granting a neat, homogeneous and sustainable development of the territory and improving the quality of life and the wellness of its inhabitants. Since then, many projects have been proposed and realized. The article describes the project of adjustment of five roundabouts located in different areas of the municipality, trying to depict the different landscapes identified by the Green Masterplan: urban landscape, rural landscape, fluvial landscape, littoral landscape, and green areas landscape. In particular, each roundabout tries to outline in a simplified and symbolic way a given landscape, through either the insertion of typical species of the different environments and spatial arrangements recalling the original landscape. Finally, the project tries to enhance the visual and environmental continuity demanded for by the Green Masterplan, thus overcoming the typical offsetting schemes intrinsic to the concept of town: city center/suburbs, city/countryside, urban/rural, operating in terms of territorial and environmental networks, flows, and systems.
