Abstract

This paper deals with the possibilities of concentration of electromagnetic radiation through Fresnel lenses. The article points out errors in the optical system and their possible solutions, which are based on the latest scientific knowledge. At present, there is a development of Concentrator photovoltaics (CPV) and high-concentration photovoltaics (HCPV) systems that make the possibility of more efficient transformation of solar energy into electrical energy. Manufacturing of photovoltaic cells differs in the composition as well as the shape of cells, which brings a different efficiency levels. Its capabilities are limited by location and construction of the equipment. Critical point of the CPV / HCPV technologies is an optical system, that affects photovoltaic cells by its efficiency. For the extensive nature of the issue, it is focused on concentration by using lenses and does not take into account the concentration using mirrors. Great demands are currently laid on the composition of the optical system. With the focus on efficiency and economic acceptability the concentration photovoltaics are getting on top of the current possibilities of technologies, which are using renewable energy sources. However, at present, its application still struggles to find the way to common users (B2C). This situation is caused by improper setting of CPV / HCPV technologies, which points to the need for innovation in this area.
