Abstract

The authors studied the change in the content of dissolved total iron, pH, Eh and mineralization of water bodies of the Azov sea catchment were constructed according to the megaprofile "Mine waters of the coal mining area, sedimentation and aerators ponds, small rivers (Eastern Donbass) ? Don River - Taganrog Bay - Azov Sea". The content of total dissolved iron decreased when moving from the area of mine waters to the Azov Sea, and the values of the hydrogen index, in the same direction, increased. For mineralization a decrease was observed when moving from the Eastern Donbass region to the Don River, further along the transect "Don River?Taganrog Bay?Azov Sea", its increase was observed. The values of redox potential changed unevenly. The lowest Eh values were observed for the background groundwater of the region, in the mine waters of the coal mining area they reached the maximum. When water came to the surface of the earth in sedimentation and aerators ponds Eh values decreased sharply and monotonically increased further along the profile of "sedimentation and aerators ponds?small rivers?Don River ", then in the direction of "Don River?Taganrog Bay ?Azov Sea", the average values of Eh again began to decline. The change in the relationship between the forms of dissolved iron in the megaprofile "mine waters ? Don River ? Azov Sea" is studied. The average ratio of Fe3+/Fe2+ increased in the part of the profile "background groundwater-mine waters of the coal mining area - sedimentation and aerators ponds", further along the transect this value decreased in the direction of " sedimentation and aerators ponds?small rivers?Don River". In the waters of the Taganrog Bay and the Azov Sea, the ratio of Fe3+/Fe2+ increased again. The factors affecting the iron content in the Don River are established.
