Abstract

In the context of the transition to a hydrogen-based economy, the assessment of the risks associated with this energy vector is becoming a priority for industrial safety. The unique properties of hydrogen, its high reactivity and high burning rate, require the use of advanced numerical simulation tools, capable of providing highly accurate predictions of the effects of explosive phenomena. This paper presents methodological contributions aimed at optimizing the numerical models used for the analysis of explosions of air-hydrogen mixtures. The research focused on the calibration of mathematical parameters in order to faithfully replicate the initiation and propagation of the explosion under controlled conditions. Through iterative simulations and sensitivity analysis, an optimal correlation between the calculated data and the experimental results was achieved. The analysis highlights the influence of calibration factors on the evolution of overpressure and the distribution of temperature fields during the explosive event. The results demonstrate that an optimized configuration of the numerical model significantly reduces the margin of error in the prediction of dynamic loads, providing a robust basis for the management of the consequences of technological accidents.
