VARIANTS OF IDENTIFICATION OF THE RUN-OF-MINE ORE COMPOUND WITH THE HELP OF PROCESS ANALYTIC TECHNOLOGY IN THE KGHM UNDERGROUND COPPER MINES
Abstract
Processing of copper ore strongly depends on its parameters, therefore the more accurate identification of them should improve the process efficiency. The ore exploited in the KGHM underground mines in Poland is among the most difficult for processing, mostly due to its differentiated lithological compound. It can be identified at mining faces but on the way to processing plants through the complex transportation system consisting of trucks, sectional and main belt conveyors and ore bunkers, the portions of ore hauled from numerous mining faces are converted into an unknown mixture. The copper ore tracking system is needed in order to get the information of the ore compound on the feed to processing plants. It is proposed within the international research project DISIRE, focused on implementation of Process Analytic Technology for the improvement of process industry. The PAT tags - information carrying RFID pellets, annotating the conveyed ore with the relevant information are used to recognize the mixed ore compound. The accuracy of the identification of the final ore compound depend on the quality of source data (identification of the ore compound in the mined blocks), pellets detection rate and the analysis of the information extracted from them. The paper presents ore tracking process workflow for considered variants of the available input geological information and methods of processing the information extracted from pellets with regard to the analysis of ore flow on the transportation system in the mine. Mining faces, providing the tracked portions of run-of-mine ore, can be alternatively either evaluated against a 3-D orebody, structural and quality block model or assigned with the geological data from the nearest channel sample from a geological database with regard to mine maps and mine plans. The ore flow recognition can be solved with the help of implemented belt conveyors on-line monitoring and dispatching system and simulation methods filled with information read from detected pellets. The actual solution will depend on the adjustment of existing information environment and the application of PAT tags.
