GEOTECHNICAL MONITORING OF ROAD EMBANKMENT IN LANDSLIDE AREA BY TDR TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
Region of West Carpathians Mountains is the territory, where app. 5.25% of total area of coverage are landslides. Therefore our re search team has started implementation of TDR technology (Time Domain Reflectometry) for measurement of slope underground movements. However this technology offers implementation for a variety of uses. Continuing development of monitoring usin g this method of measurement has been implemented in one selected locality where new national road was built across the existing landslide. In this practical case of installed geotechnical monitoring elements can be described importance of monitoring to final design of route in landslide area and also there can be presented new way of measurement of piezometric level of underground water by TDR apparatus. New shifting of route II/217 in PovaЕѕskГЎ Bystrica is located on northwest part of Slovakia and was built as the new leg of moto rway D1 section II. The present dynamic alternative of the classic way of monitoring is measurement by pulsing technology - Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR). Thanks to universality of this technology and its permanent improvement is now applicable in geotechnical engineering. It is useful for measurement of progress of deformation, but it also allows observing ground water pressure and moisture content of soils. The presented article describes advantages of this technology which was combined by classical monitoring methods used for geotechnical monitoring of road embankment built up in area of old landslide.
