EVALUATION OF THE TROPHIC LEVEL OF TWO LAGOONS IN THE ALBANIAN ADRIATIC COAST (KUNE AND VAIN) AND PROPOSED MEASURES FOR MODIFICATION OF HYDRODYNAMIC CONDITIONS OF THE LAGOONS
Abstract
Concentration of chlorophyll is a parameter that is considered adequate for assessing the trophic state of lagoon ecosystems . Application of a selected system of bioindicators to provide a good qualitative evaluation of th e trophic state of the lagoons and their dynamics; evaluation of seasonal water quality variability and comparison between lagoons; design of respective measures of reha bilitation, with regards to modification of hydrodynamic conditions of the lagoons throu gh regulation of tide currents. This strategy can be realized by means of hydro-technical works for re-dimensioning of cross sections of existing canals of water exchange sea-lagoon; for opening of new and stable canals or for orienting the entrance of fresh water from the land into the lagoon. The trophic state of the lagoons is analyzed every month over the year. Water samples are retrieved at four different sites (exact GPS coordinates) each month, sites that are representative of different water circulation systems at each lagoon. Based on the findings on the trophic level, a management strategy of hydraulic modification has been proposed, in order to improve the trophic state at the critical points.
