Abstract

Since 1. January 2013 on all the vessels of a gross tonnage exceeding 400 tons there is a Recommendation in force released by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) which concerns applying a Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan ? SEEMP. Applying SEEMP on the vessels is meant to be the way of increasing the efficient energy use of fleet within the economic and ecological scope. Its aim is to increase the efficient energy use of the vessels thanks to the decline in fuel consumption and the same CO2 emission to atmosphere. This recommendation does not concern fishing vessels yet. The character of work of the fishing vessels (usually in the coastal zone) suggests that in few years time there will be a necessity for defining the characteristic indicators of energy consumption by these vessels. In the work the possible operational modes of the fishing vessel have been characterized: - sea passage (fishing vessel moves in between the fisheries and/ or ports ? all elements of the power-propulsion system are in operation); - running out or hauling in fishing nets (all elements of the power-propulsion system are in operation as well as energy systems responsible for running out and hauling in fishing nets); - trawling operation (all elements of the power-propulsion system are in operation); - drift fishing or stay at a port (only power generating systems are in operation ? no other power systems, nor elements of the power-propulsion system work. The measures characterizing power consumption in different operational modes of the fishing vessel have been proposed
