APPLICATION OF CASE STUDY IN SAFETY FIELDS
Abstract
In general, there is a long-term emphasis on the support of educational facilities at universities, according to the latest trends. Above all, it is about using progressive learning forms, proven methods and also linking higher education with practice. New teaching methods are being used more and more frequently as part of education at technical universities. Many modern and more efficient methods are used. It offers students new teaching methods to make their learning more attractive and better. At this case, it is the use of theoretical knowledge gained in lectures with the connection of practical knowledge in the field of safety in the area. One of the modern teaching methods is the use of case studies. Case study methods are used for teaching at VSB - Technical University of Ostrava, Faculty of Safety Engineering, Department of Civil Protection within the study subject of Master's degree in Methods of Risk Engineering. The article describes a specific case study that is used in the innovation of the teaching unit - exercise. Technical subject is focused on analysis and assessment of specific risks - leakage of dangerous substance from stationary source. The source of risk in this case is the Ice Planet, which are mostly situated in the urban area. For cooling, ammonia is used as cooling medium within this objects. Any leakage of ammonia from the Ice Planet can endanger people living in the surrounding area. The article also describes the creation of a case study focusing on a real Ice planet in the Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic.
