Abstract

The road transport of dangerous goods may have severe consequences in the event of an accident. The consequences of a road accident involving a heavy vehicle transporting dangerous goods can affect not only the truck driver but also the nearby population. Route selection is a complex issue, influenced by multiple parameters that may vary over the course of a day, a week, or a month. The ultimate objective is to enhance safety through the complete digitalization of the risk management process for the transport of dangerous goods, using real-time data acquisition and real-time risk assessment through an online platform connected to the Global Positioning System. Risk quantification was implemented using the Quantitative Risk Assessment Model for Dangerous Goods and was illustrated specific curves. The results of this research were compared with existing results calculated on the basis of annual statistical data for the factors mentioned above. The outcomes were compared using Societal Risk expressed through the Expected Value and showed that specific factors influence the final route selection due to the calculated risk.
