Abstract

The designation of protected natural areas aims to preserve the natural elements where the ecological balance is becoming unstable. Gradually, the role of the strict nature protection begins to be phased out, whereas most protected areas are an integral part of human settlements or represent points of tourist attraction for nature lovers. It is therefore necessary to harmonise the nature protection with the spatial development in order to minimize the negative environmental impacts and maximize the economic benefits. This topic is treated in a case study conducted in Vrancea County (located in the South-East Region of Romania). The study is based on direct observations in the 28 protected natural areas carried out in repeated stages of land between 2013-2016. These were supplemented by interviews with local authorities being responsable with the management of the network of protected areas in this county, the questionnaires addressed to tourists and a bibliographical study. In order to establish a relationship between the State of conservation of biodiversity and the transformation of the environment by mainly, tourist facilities, it was calculated the Pearson correlation coefficient (using spacial and demographic indicators, etc) The importance of the subject is given by the actuality of the environmental protection consensus phenomenon in relation with the effects of regional planning in protected natural areas. So, in Vrancea County and the rest of the county, there are major shortcomings in complying with European standards and directives for the implementation of territorial development policies. Although in the studied area the territorial arrangements are still in an infancy phase and the consequences of anthropogenic impacts are not very evident yet, we can sound the alarm in areas such as Natural Park Putna Vrancea.
