PLAY FAIRWAY ANALYSIS IN B-GOLITZA EXPLORATION BLOCK, NE BULGARIA
Abstract
This paper summarises the results of the first phase of oil \& gas exploration of the B-Golitza Block. A revised geological framework will be presented, which puts the stratigraphy in a chronostratigraphic scheme, incorporating sequence stratigraphic architecture. Use of a chronostratigraphic framework for exploration of the block has enabled the exploration Play Elements to be identified and both their stratigraphic and aerial distribution to begin to be determined within an integrated methodology that incorporates seismic data, well data and fieldwork. The work conducted during the first phase of the exploration period has focused on identification of the prospective Play Fairways within the block and determining the structural and basin evolution of the area. The distribution of the Play Fairways is now beginning to be understood within the block and has led to the block being subdivided into areas which are thought to have different exploration risk profiles. This paper will present the preliminary exploration models for Play Fairways, structure and structural evolution of the area. The paper will also discuss the critical risk elements within the main Play Fairways and how these risks are being addressed by technical work. A series of seismic lines will be shown that cross each of the play fairways and illustrates the main components of the play. The conclusion will focus on what has been learned during the first exploration term and what exploration problems remain.
