ECOLOGICAL AWARENESS OF THE RESIDENTS OF CZESTOCHOWA REGION - INTRODUCTION
Abstract
Czestochowa is a city located in the south of Poland. It is famous, first of all, for the Black-Madonna Monastery, to which many pilgrims come by foot every year. Not everyone knows that this is a city located on the Cracow-Czestochowa Upland, which is famous for its beautiful views and areas. The Unpland is willingly visited by many tourists who travel its tourist trails by car, on foot, by bike or even on horseback. Unfortunately, both local enterprises and residents are unaware of the impact they have on the Upland and Czestochowa itself. To change this situation, an ecological awareness of the inhabitants of this area should be changed and developed. The basic tool in development of the ecological awareness is ecological education, i.e. the concept of educating and raising society in the spirit of respecting the natural environment in accordance with the slogan "to think globally - to act locally". The purpose of the paper is to introduce the need of development of the ecological awareness among people. The ecological awareness as the basic pro-ecological behavior will be described. The Cracow-Czestochowa Upland will be characterized. The research, which was conducted between people from the described area, in order to evaluate their ecological awareness, will be introduced.
