Abstract

Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) represent one of the most promising high-enthalpy renewable energy technologies for regions lacking natural hydrothermal reservoirs. Poland, positioned on favorable geological structures including the Variscan basement, sedimentary basins, and several high-heat-flow provinces, has emerged as a candidate for EGS deployment. Recent numerical modeling, petrophysical research, and CO2-EGS feasibility studies in Poland indicate strong potential for both heat and electricity generation under various stimulation and circulation strategies. This paper synthesizes the state of knowledge regarding geological potential, reservoir properties, stimulation methods, design configurations, and techno-economic feasibility. It also proposes development pathways, research priorities, and synergies with carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). The analysis is based on recent studies focused on Polish geological units, including central and western provinces, and highlights the opportunity to combine deep geothermal exploitation with industrial decarbonization through CO2-EGS.
