Abstract

The article presents the results of the research carried out in order to assess the possibility of using surface water of the Dniester River in the Halych area, for the public supply of water intended for human consumption. These studies included double sampling of surface water in different seasons and their physicochemical analysis. This assessment was made on the basis of the received data in accordance with the Polish applicable requirements [1]. In addition, an assessment of the water status of the Dniester River was conducted in accordance with regulation of the Minister of the Environment [2] using available data. The results of the research indicate that water of the Dniester River in the Halych area should be classified as class A2 of surface water intended for human consumption, i.e. water requiring typical physical and chemical treatment, in particular pre-oxidation, coagulation, flocculation, decantation, filtration and disinfection [2]. On the basis of incomplete assessment can be stated that water of the Dniester River in the Halych area has a bad status.
