LEADERSHIP DYNAMICS AND BEHAVIORAL DETERMINANTS OF EFFECTIVE DECISION-MAKING: EVIDENCE FROM BUSINESS LEADERS IN KOSOVO
Abstract
Leadership effectiveness is a key driver of organizational success, especially in emerging economies undergoing transformation. This study examines how leadership behaviors influence managerial decision-making effectiveness among business leaders in Kosovo, focusing on supportive and directive behaviors, leadership style, and decision-making competencies. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from 82 leaders across micro to large enterprises in production, trade, and service sectors. Quantitative analysis (descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression using SPSS) was complemented by qualitative insights from open-ended responses. Findings show that supportive leadership behaviours and decision-making competencies are the strongest predictors, explaining 44.1% of the variance in decision-making effectiveness. Directive leadership has limited impact, mainly in high-pressure situations. Results emphasise the role of emotional intelligence, participation, and ethical conduct. The study contributes to leadership research in transitional economies and offers practical implications for developing adaptive, effective leaders.
