Abstract

The increasing demand on the hardly accessible petroleum resources drives the E&P sector to find better solutions for the drilling and production systems. The drilling operation?s environmental impact is being more and more important where the role of drilling fluids is the key factor. The use of the nanotechnology promises new opportunities in both efficiency and environmental protection. Nano-additives can meaningfully affect the drilling fluid properties in small concentration help to their small particle sizes. Nano-additives can reduce significantly the formation damage and can improve the drilling mud rheological properties in higher temperatures as well. The effect of the Nano-additives from the view of the driller is an important question. The advantages of using Nano-additives is getting widely investigated in the scientific works, but the drilling crew meet at the rigsite first the rheological effects of the additives. Rheological properties are important during the normal rotary drilling procedure. This paper is a study about the rheological and drilling process related outcomes of the Nano-additives. The effect of different Nano-additives concentration will be analyzed on a reservoir-friendly drilling fluid. The drilling-process related drilling fluid parameters will be tested and analyzed. The Nano-additives are treated with surfactants to reduce the chance of undesirable interactions between the different particles and to reduce the chance of the particle?s aggregation. The laboratory measurement results are analyzed from the driller?s view.
