Abstract

On the night of February 21st, 2010, the county road 724 that connects the Malu cu Flori-Pucheni village was destroyed by a violent landslide, isolating it. In a few hours the road, together with the electrical, phone and water systems were moved downstream 30m along 100 meters. The area has been known for more than 100 years as being affected by landslides, which have appeared immediately after massive deforestation, regularly engaging local roads, house hold settlements. After the sliding in 1970, a series of works of drainage and surface design were executed with point measurements of flow and displacement of the land drained. After1990, after the restitution of land, all the works were destroyed, and an apple orchard was planted on the slope . Slip surface was about 60,000m2, it had a length of approximately 1,200m (perpendicular to the road) and a width of about 500m. The general characteristic of the phenomenon of instability is the fact that the phenomenon evolved from upstream (as of approx. 500-600m) downstream (to the river), bringing the sliding material into the river bed. Following this phenomenon, water has eroded the left bank of the river, favouring the emergence of a phenomenon of flow on the left side of it, which has finally led to the partial obstruction of the river valley. Geotechnical investigation consisted of both field observations and execution of geotechnical surveys namely16 boreholes with depth between 3.5-29.0 meters. This paper presents the results of complex geotechnical investigations such as slope stability analysis and remedial measures executed in the last decades.
