Abstract

Out of allbroad-leavedspeciesthat are to be found in our woods, ash trees have a special importance throughboththe great value of the wood andthe cultural qualities. The imbalancesin forest ecosystems due to the influenceof some climatic and anthropic factors havematerialized in the occurrence of some gradations of defoliationinsects, among themStereonychus fraxiniDe Geer, 1775.In the last few years the ash tree stands were increasinglyaffected, which requiredeven more careful preoccupation withthe prevention and controlof ash treedefoliation. The purposeswere: to establish themethods to prevent the mass reproduction of the insect and experimenting control pesticides for establishing the most appropriate substances and the optimum moment to apply treatments (in rapport with the biology of the insect, specific toactive stages: adult or larva). The results showed that in all years, the flight of the 2ndgeneration started in the second half of March, the maximumbeing recorded in the second half of April. The 1stgeneration started the flight in the second decade of May, in most situations, the maximum being recorded in the first half of June. The end of the flight takes place at the end of June and early July. The study concluded that the optimum moment of treatment can lead to avoidance of defoliation Stereonychus fraxiniDe Geerwith over 90%.
