Abstract

Conceptual models of the decision-making theory under conditions of deep uncertainty formed the basis for an empirical analysis of practical reality deviations from theoretical developments and justification of the need for the formation of appropriate competencies and behavioral patterns among the students of technical universities. The analysis of annual companies' reports in the section of risk assessment and management was carried out. The analysis is based on a text analysis methodology implemented in an open source web application. The documents of the companies that entered the Top - 20 in terms of profit before tax and the Top - 20 largest companies in Russia according to the RAEX-600 rating were considered. Ferrous industry is taken as an example of an industrial analysis. Planning activities and making decisions require taking into account the inevitable uncertainty and implementing proactive exploratory patterns of behavior that transform emphasis in risk management on managing opportunities as opposed to threats. Involvement in innovation projects as one of the components of the profession necessitates the training of uncertainty tolerant engineers and scientists. Risk management and decision-making tools in an environment of deep uncertainty can be difficult to apply to small innovative projects. The author's recommendations are given on the specifics of the formation of exploratory patterns of behavior and the use of simplified tools, the mastery of which will allow the students of technical universities to assess potential risks, be ready to neutralize threats and use the external and internal opportunities when implementing small projects.
