INFLUENCE OF THE SURFACE WATER QUALITY ON THE LOWLAND GRASSLAND VEGETATION FROM WESTERN ROMANIA
Abstract
In Banatului Plain area (western Romania) the grassland vegetation is represented by steppe and forest steppe. From the past, most of the land was cultivated and nowadays grasslands are present in the plain only in the vicinity of the inhabited area for the use of the grazing animals of the community during the vegetation season. Many times the steppe grasslands are characterised by an increased alkalinity of the soil that determinates the existence of the halophytic vegetation sward. The plain is mostly intensive cultivated, this leading to the increase of the concentrations of the agriculture pollutants in the surface waters. The data were collected during 2014-2016 period from four locations (Voiteg, G?taia, Rovini?a Mic? and Parto?). The vegetation was analysed using the linear point quadrate method. The vegetation sward from the four studied locations is framing in two typological groups according with the Romanian grassland vegetation classification. Thus, the analysed grassland plots from G?taia and Voiteg are zonal grasslands, framing in the forest steppe area, Festuca pseudovina series, Festuca pseudovina пїЅ Achillea setacea type, Lolium perenne subtype. The other analysed plots from Parto? and Rovini?a Mic? are intrazonal grasslands, respectively halophylic grasslands, Puccinelia limosa series, Festuca pseudovina пїЅ Artemisia maritima type. The water samples were collected from the open channels from the grasslandsпїЅ vicinity, there being considered the following chemical parameters: pH, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, phosphates, chlorides, calcium, magnesium, sulphates, nickel, lead, iron and manganese. The statistical method used for the analysis of the interrelation among the chemical parameters of the surface water and the grassland vegetation features was the correlation coefficient Bravais Pearson. The purpose of this work is to investigate the relationships among some grassland vegetation features (species richness and biodiversity indexes Shannon and Simpson, floristic composition aspects and pastoral value) and the chemical parameters of the surface water mentioned above.
