APPLICATION OF THE METHODS OF REMOTE SENSING OF THE EARTH TO STUDY THE BATHYMETRY OF THE COASTAL PART OF THE ASTANA RESERVOIR (KAZAKHSTAN)
Abstract
The possibility of the application of satellite bathymetry methods was studied in order to obtain quantitative parameters of the depth of the coastal part of the Astana reservoir (Kazakhstan). The relevance of the research is associated with the application of new technologies for the operational evaluation of changes in the level of the water line and the volume of the reservoir, which supplies Nur-Sultan, the capital of Kazakhstan, with drinking water. The initial data were satellite images with different resolution (Landsat 8, Sentinel-2, PlanetScope), which are freely available and have a data archive. The images with the lowest cloud amount during the spring period and after the flood has passed, when the content of suspended mineral particles in the water decreases, while the content of suspended organic matter is minimal, were used for analysis. The data from the bath-ymetric survey of 2014 were used to validate the results of processing satellite images. As a result of the research, the boundaries of the water table of the Astana reservoir for 2018 were determined. The bathymetric information was calculated based on the ratio of indicators of the green and blue spectral ranges of satellite images using the method of Stumpf R., Kristine H.?. (2003). As a result, more correct bathymetric data for the coastal parts of the Astana reservoir were obtained according to the Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 images from depths in the range of 1-1,5 m and 5-6 m. According to the PlanetScope image, the bathymetry indicators at a depth from 1,5 to 10 m turned out to be more correct.
