SIMULATION MODEL TO INCREASE THE ECONOMICAL EFFICIENCY OF INTERNATIONAL TIMBER TRANSPORTATION
Abstract
The article describes an effective simulated model of international timber transportation, which is a part of support methodology for the selection of a transportation scheme of international timber transportation. The main objective of the developed model is to increase the economic efficiency of international timber transportation. Using the simulation method is due to its availability and cost-effectiveness. The initial data used in the model are experimental data (time spent on the moving from the loading point to the consumer; time spent on any technological operations, etc.) and GIS data (distance between loading points, cross border checkpoints and consumers; spatial location and work schedule of loading points, etc.). At the output, the model makes possible to determine the number of equipment units and personnel necessary for the successful implementation of the transportation process, taking into account various schemes for transportation organizing. The unique feature of the simulated model developed is the ability to model additional traffic flows that form queues at loading points, unloading points and at cross border checkpoints. The approbation of a simulated model of international timber transportation was carried out in terms of exporting wood from Russia to the territory of Finland by timber lorries. As a result, several alternative transportation schemes were obtained and the most efficient was chosen, using which transport costs are reduced by 14%.
