GEOLOGY, MINERALOGY AND GEOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE GOZECUKURU (KUTAHYA) As-Sb DEPOSITS, NW TURKEY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, F. Arik)

The Goze\ccukuru As-Sb mineralization was occured in an area of 2,1 km2, which is located near the small town of Sahin Village, 22 km west of Kutahya. Low-grade metamorphic rocks (metasandstones, metaconglomerate, chalcshist, graphitic mikaschists, and micaschist and quartz schist) of Upper Paleozoic (Carboniferous- Permian) aged Sahin Formation form the basement. The rhyolitic and rhyodacitic tuffs of Middle-Upper Miocene aged Tavsanlı volcanites uncomformably covers to the Sahin Formation. The Upper Pliocene age...

MINERALOGIC AND GEOCHEMICAL FEATURES OF NEOGENE AGED SEDIMENTARY UNITS OF POLATLI, SW ANKARA (TURKEY)

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, Karakaya, Muazzez Celik, Karakaya, Necati)

Upper Paleozoic aged metamorphic rocks, which consist of micaschist, phyllite, metasandstone, marbles, meta dolomitic limestones were located at the basement. Upper Cretaceous ultrabasics have been overturned upon the Paleozoic metamorphic rocks. The Late Upper Cretaceous plutonic rocks are unconformably overlain by the Late Miocene-Early Pliocene volcanics, volcanism composed mainly tuffs and minor amount of volcanic breccia, agglomerate, trachyte and trachyandesitic lava flows and lacustrine volcano-sedimentary ...

AN EXAMPLE FOR THE VOLCANIC SECTION OF THE INTRAOCEANIC SUBDUCTION ZONE TYPE OPHIOLITE (KOMURHAN OPHIOLITE) FROM THE SOUTHEAST ANATOLIA (ELAZIG-TURKEY)

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, Parlak, Assis. . . Tamer Rizaoglu . . Osman, Isler, Fikret)

In this study, the volcanic rocks located in the South of Baskil (Elazig) town were investigated in terms of their geochemical, petrographical and geological charecteristics, for pointing out the relations of this unit with the late Cretaceous Komurhan ophiolite and Andean type arc magmatics (Baskil granitoid). The volcanic rocks crop out along an approximately east-west trending belt in the region. It is represented by alternations of volcanic and sedimentary rock units. The measured thickness of the volcanics in...

GEOLOGY AND MINERALOGY OF THE DOРANHISAR CLAY BEDS (CENTRAL ANATOLIA, TURKEY)

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, R. Aksoy, I. Ince, A. Bozdag, M. Y. Huseyinca)

The geology and the mineralogy of the clay beds (Doganhisar clays) located southeast of Doganhisar (central Anatolia, Turkey) were studied. Rock units found in and adjacent to the Doganhisar clay beds include metamorphic rocks of pre-Triassic age of the Sultandaglari Massif, the Miocene Ayaslar Formation and the Pliocene Doganhisar Formation as well as alluvium The Lower (?)-Middle Cambrian-Lower Ordovician Caltepe Formation forming the base of the metamorphic rocks is composed of recrystallized limestone and dolo...

DISSOLUTION OF LATERITIC NICKEL ORE IN SULPHURIC ACID MEDIUM WITH POTASSIUM DICHROMATE

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, Agacayak, Tevfik, Aydogan, Salih, Zedef, Veysel)

In this study, leaching of Ni and Fe in suphuric acid medium with K2Cr2O7 was investigated. The samples of the lateritic nickel ore were taken from Karacam (Eskisehir) region of Turkey. Mineralogical investigations showed that the ore sample contains, goethite, hematite, wustite, retgersite, gaspeite and clay type minerals together with quartz. The shrinking core model was applied to the results of experiments investigating the effects of leaching temperature range of 50–96 ◦C. Two equations were applied from obta...

ROCKFALL HAZARD MAPPING USING GIS SOFTWARE: AN APPLICATION IN A SELECTED AREA FROM SEBINKARAHISAR (GIRESUN-TURKEY)

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, Yilmaz, Isik, Keskin, Inan, Yildirim, Mustafa, Civelekoglu, Berrin)

Rockfalls are natural process of cliff and hillside erosion, can be simulated by the computer programs. They consist of large rock fragments from a cliff, or boulders from a slope that bounce, roll, and slide down a hillside and come to rest in a “runout” zone at or near its base. Rockfalls are a major hazard in rock cuts for highways and railways, and in mountainous terrain. Rockfalls are generally initiated by some climatic or biological event that causes a change in the forces acting on a rock. These events may...
