(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-29, Tataru, D., Toma-Danila, D., Nastase, E.)

Over the last few years, science has advanced unprecedentedly in explaining phenomena and facts with a high impact on society: earthquakes for example. On the other hand, new technologies are transforming the way (seismological) information is collected and transmitted to public and other various stakeholders categories. From interactive multimedia content to immersive experiences, difficult concepts become easier to be transmitted and understood by a wide variety of audience, starting with children, a most import...

IMPROVING REAL-TIME DETECTION AND LOCATION OF LOCAL SEISMIC EVENTS IN ROMANIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Neagoe, C., Grecu, B., L.M.Manea)

National Institute for Earth Physics (NIEP) has started the development of its own realtime seismic network since 2002. The network is designed to monitor the seismic activity on Romania territory, which is dominated by intermediate earthquake from the Vrancea area. In present the network consist of 115 seismic stations and two seismic array. The seismic stations are equipped with Quanterra Q330 or Basalt digitizers, broad-band seismometers (STS2, CMG40T, CMG 3ESP, CMG3T, PBB-200s) or shortperiod sensors (MARK L4C...

ENHANCING EARTHQUAKE SHAKEMAPS FOR ROMANIA, BY USING AZIMUTHAL ANALYSIS AND CROWD-SOURCED INTENSITY DATA

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Toma-Danila, D., Cioflan, C. O.)

ShakeMaps are one of the most applicative products of seismological research and monitoring, becoming available minutes after earthquakes. They are maps depicting the ground shaking produced by an earthquake and the estimated intensity distribution, being extremely useful for authorities, population, private sector and researchers too. However, the outcome of the result ? consisting of easy to read maps representing the potential area affected, often hides the fact that many compromise decisions and uncertainties ...

SPECTRAL INVESTIGATION OF INFRASONIC SIGNALS RECORDED ON THE ROMANIAN BLACK SEA COAST

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Moldovan, Iren Adelina)

The atmospheric sound waves with frequencies lower than 20Hz are named infrasound waves. Among the multitude of infrasonic signals that have been recorded and detected during time, some of them have been associated with different natural or anthropogenic sources and the source of many other remaining hidden and unknown. At the beginning of year 2013, a permanent infrasound monitoring system composed by a MB AZEL2007 microbarometer, the digitizer and the transmitting equipment, was installed by NIEP, at Mangalia, R...

PERCEPTION AND PREPAREDNESS OF THE TSUNAMI RISK WITHIN THE BLACK SEA (ROMANIA) COMMUNITIES

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Constantin, Angela)

Tsunami is one of the major natural hazards presenting significant flood risk for coastal communities and therefore, increasing the society resilience to this phenomena in exposed areas is very important for minimizing damage and possible destructive effects on the environment in these areas. In the frame of the EC Programme-FP7 ASTARTE project (Assessment, STrategy And Risk reduction for Tsunamis in Europe), we conducted a questionnaire survey among people living, working, or visiting Eforie Nord site. The tsunam...

DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF A PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BRIDGE DURING CONSTRUCTION BY CANTILEVER METHOD

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Chiotan, C., Morlova, D. D.)

Romania is an active country from a seismic point of view, every year occurring around 250 earthquakes, many of these of a medium to strong level. This is one of the reasons why the seismic design of bridges is very important in Romania. The seismic provisions applied in Romania evolved from P100 - 92 to P100 - 2013, containing major changes regarding the ground acceleration and corner period, but also regarding the structural details. The cantilever method for prestressed concrete bridges has obvious benefits for...

SEISMICITY OF STREI-HATEG BASIN

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Diaconescu, M.)

The paper highlights the seismicity of the Strei-Hateg depressionary system. This system is situated in the western part of the Southern Carpathians, and consists of two intermountain, post orogenic basins, Hateg basin and Strei basin. These two basins are separated by a threshold. The seismicity is characterized by moderate magnitude with a maximum magnitude of 4 (Mw) (8 September 2013) and by the presences of the seismic sequences. In the area are known two seismic sequences, one in 2011 of 14 earthquakes of 2 t...

SEISMIC ANALYSIS OF TUNNEL LOCATED NEAR STRAIGHT INTERFACE OF TWO DIFFERENT ROCKS

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Deev, P.V., Tormysheva, O.A., Petruhin, M.A.)

Interfaces of rocks with different mechanical properties influence on seismic stress field appearing in rock mass during the earthquake. This influence may increase seismic load applied to underground objects located near the interface, so it should be taking into account in seismic analysis of the structures. For this aim the problem of elasticity theory about stress state of the ring supporting an opening in the half-plane, which is united with a half-plane of another material is considered. Lengths of seismic w...

SEISMIC RETROFITING OF AN EXISTING STEEL STRUCTURE

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Campian, C., Pop, M., Cismasiu, C., Timea, J., Popa, A.)

The primary aim of earthquake resistant design is to prevent building collapse during the seismic event, but severe earthquakes have a low probability of occurrence during the life time of the structure, therefore in contrast to traditional structural design in earthquake design, structures are permitted to work in post-elastic domain under seismic load. It would require a large lateral stiffness of the structure and an expensive resisting system to design the building to have an elastic response. Because of these...

FOCAL MECHANISM AND SOURCE DIRECTIVITY FOR VRANCEA INTERMEDIATE DEPTH EARTHQUAKES

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Neagoe, C., Grecu, B., Radulian, M.)

The focal mechanism and rupture directivity for intermediate-depth earthquakes occurred in the Vrancea source (Romania) are determined using FMNEAR algorithm [1]. The method is based on the waveform inversion of near-source seismic waveforms and on a linear finite source model. When the FMNEAR algorithm is started the first parameters that are determined are the moment magnitude (Mw), the double couple focal mechanism (strike, dip, rake) and the distribution of seismic moment along strike. This provides a first or...
