EVALUATING THE EFFICIENCY OF RARE EARTH ELEMENTS RECOVERY FROM TAILINGS USING ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY METHODS

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-11-20, Borcia, Catalin-Gabriel)

Various sites with materials resulting from mining activities were investigated, as secondary sources for Rare Earth Elements (REE). The aim of our paper is to present the main methods used for characterizing these materials and the result of extraction processes in order to evaluate the efficiency of RRE recovery processes which are using environmentally friendly methods. The characterization of these materials is a first task aiming to identify the best sites which can furnish the most suitable materials for con...

IMMOBILIZATION OF ARSENIC AND IRON FROM ACID DRAINAGE WATERS BY USING REAGENT

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-11-20, Saeva, Olga)

In the paper the precipitation of arsenic and iron from an acid drainage water of the Berikul mine wastes by using lime milk, NaOH, and Na2S were studied. The wastes were stored in the southern part of the Komsomolsk tailings impoundment, near the Komsomolsk settlement (Kemerovo region, Russia). The interaction of natural waters with the wastes produced ultra-acid drainage with a pH of about 2, with arsenic content of 1.3 g/l and iron - 6.5 g/l. The results of in situ experiments showed that adding lime milk and s...

GEOCHEMICAL INVESTIGATIONS OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION IN A DARASUN GOLD MINE TAILINGS AREA (TRANSBAIKAL KRAY, RUSSIA)

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-11-20, Yurkevich, Nataliya)

Sulfide-bearing mine tailings of the Darasun ore processing plant situated in the permafrost zone in Trans Baikal region (Russia) were examined in 2016. The composition of mine drainages and affected river waters were investigated. The processes of oxidation and chemical weathering of mine tailings leads to removal of a wide spectrum of chemical elements according to geochemical analyses. Two associations of chemical elements were found: i) Tl, Pb, Cd, Zn, Mn, and Be; ii) Cu, Mo, Au, Ag, As, and Sb. Thallium is pr...

RELATIONSHIPS AMONG MICROBIOLOGICAL AND GEOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS IN SOILS IMPACTED BY MINE TAILINGS

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Edelev, Natalya, Fabrizio, E., Potecasu, F., Potecasu, O., Damian, C.)

The present study reports on the geochemical composition of soils and bacterial and fungal isolates determined in the soils surrounding the Komsomolsk tailings, Kuznetski Alatau, Russia. The areas with high concentration of As, Sb, Cd, Pb, and Zn were revealed. The assessment of metal and metalloid contaminants was conducted on the soils using Pollution index (PI), Enrichment Factor (EF), and Geo-accumulation Index (Igeo). The indexes indicated serious Pb, Cu, Zn, Cd, Co, As pollution especially for soils sampled ...

A GEOPHYSICAL AND GEOCHEMICAL STUDY OF THE SHAHTAMA MOLYBDENUM MINE TAILINGS DEPOSIT (TRANSBAIKAL AREA, RUSSIA)

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Yurkevich, N., Olenchenko, V., Saeva, O., Manzirev, D.)

Geo-electrical sections were constructed according to electrical resistivity tomography data on Shahtama tailings of Mo- ore processing plant (Transbaikal Kray, Russia), located in the permafrost zone. The capacity of technogenic deposits was determined and the zone of the fault was delineated. A wide range of electrical resistivities (ER) of mine tailings was revealed due to their different particle sizes, humidity and partially frozen condition. The statistical analysis of the distribution of resistivity of tech...

TREATMENT OF NEUTRAL MINE WATERS FROM METALS AND METALLOIDS

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Abrosimova, N., Saeva, O., Yurkevich, N., Bortnikova, S.)

On the example of waters from Komsomolsk tailings pond (Kemerovo region, Russia) with initial ??=6.5 and content of As and Sb amount to 0.25 mg/l and 0.85 mg/l, respectively, the possibility of using chemical reagents: lime milk, Na2S and FeSO4, for removal of metals and metalloids from the water right up to the maximum permissible concentrations (MPC) was shown. It was experimentally proved that all three used reagents are appropriate for arsenic immobilization. The following sequences of the reagents in increasi...
