VARIABILITY OF RARE EARTH ELEMENTS CONTENT IN ASH AND SLAG DEPOSITED AT A LANDFILL SITE

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-11-20, Bialecka, B., CEMPA, M., Bauerek, A., Moszko, J. C.)

The article presents the results of investigations into the chemical composition, contents of selected rare earth elements and the reaction of eluates obtained from the waste (ash and slag) produced in the process of hard coal combustion in a pulverized-fuel boiler. Samples for tests were taken from the ash and slag landfill from three 10-metre vertical profiles. The total content of REEs in the examined ash-slags ranges from 295 to 366 mg/kg. The average concentration of rare earth elements is 330 mg/kg, with a s...

COMBUSTION WASTE LANDFILL SITES AS ALTERNATIVE SOURCES OF RARE EARTH ELEMENTS

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-11-20, Bialecka, B., CEMPA, M., Moszko, J. C.)

Increasing the possibilities to utilize fly ashes from power stations is one of the major strategic directions involved in the implementation of the waste directive imposed by the European Parliament, enabling the protection of natural resources and a reduction of the amount of waste stored. Investigations into fly ashes from power stations indicate such waste contains rare earth elements (REEs) in much higher amounts than their average content in earth?s crust. It has resulted in an increased interest in the util...

THE METHOD OF MOONQUAKES SELENOPHYSICAL PARAMETERS ANALYSIS

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Nefedyev, Yury, Shchelchkova, M. V., Vinokurov, V. N., Marcuta, A.)

The purpose of the present study is to apply the new methods of multi-parametric analysis to moonquakes. It should be noted such physical phenomena as moonquakes are some kinds of complex systems. As the works in which analysis of moonquakes observations is conducted have shown, lunar seismophysics is much more complex process than Earth's geophysics. This is why to study the physical nature of moonquakes and their parameters it is necessary to use methods of statistical physics and robust estimates. Currently, th...

THE POSSIBILITY OF SEPARATING AND UTILISING CHAR OBTAINED FROM FLY ASHES

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Moszko, J. C., Bialecka, B., Wierzchowski, K.)

The publication presents an assessment of the possibility of obtaining char from fly and fluidised ashes from coal combustion. It also presents the methodology of measuring the concentration of char in fly ashes as well as the method developed for separating char grains from fly ash samples. The research conducted has shown that both fly and fluidised ashes contain large quantities of unburnt coal grains, which can be used as a substitute in obtaining artificial graphite through the processes of graphitisation. Th...

ANALYSIS OF THE POTENTIAL OF RARE EARTH ELEMENTS IN ELECTRONIC WASTE IN POLAND

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Grabowski, J., CEMPA, M., Moszko, J. C.)

With the current situation in world economy, rare earth elements are a valuable resource for many innovative technologies. Low supply of these elements and sparse mining sources concentrated in just a few countries caused REE to become a resource critical to the development of many high-tech branches of the industry. Although rare earth elements are widespread in the nature, due to their low concentration in most minerals, their processing based on flotation, gravity or magnetic separation of a concentrate is ofte...

SOIL POLLUTION IN THE INFLUENCE AREA OF THE DEVA-MINTIA COAL-FIRED POWER STATION

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, PREDA, Claudia-Elena, Krundyshev, G., Sora, D., Sovarel, G., Hresko, J.)

The coal-fired power stations are particularly complex polluting agents, furnishing simultaneously, high and low environmental pollution sources, through the chimneys for burning gases evacuation and the ash dumps, respectively. The Deva-Mintia coal-fired power stations has an installed power of 1260 MW, six power units of 210 MW each group having two steam boilers of 330t/h, the energy being produced by the coal extracted from Jiu Valley mining area. Coal-fired power station Mintia is located in South East Transy...

PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF THE POSSIBILITIES OF CONCENTRATING THE RARE EARTH METALS BY FLOTATION FROM THE POWER PLANT ASHES

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Wierzchowski, K., Moszko, J. C., Bialecka, B.)

The search for prospective sources of rare earth metals (REM) is one of the most important problems of the EU economy. Currently, it is believed that the source of REM may be deposits of coals or by-products of their combustion. A particularly promising appear to be fly ash from the combustion of coal because of much higher concentration of REM than in the coal beds. These facts and the dependency of domestic power energy on coal was an impulse to undertake work to determine the feasibility of obtaining the REM fr...

RAREASH BASE - SUPPORT FOR RAW MATERIAL USE FROM ENERGY WASTE DEPOSITED ON LANDFILLS

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, CEMPA, M., Bialecka, B., Moszko, J. C., Latka, P.)

In Poland information about landfills of power industry waste and the composition of waste deposited on them are largely dispersed. There is no data on the content of rare earth elements in ashes and slags. The article presents a developed information system allowing simultaneous access to a number of data on power industry waste landfills (location, technical and technological data) and data on the rare earth content in deposited ashes and slags. The article presents energy waste landfills (both historical and cu...

SOIL TEMPERATURE REGIME IN TOP SOIL LAYER WITH BIOCHAR AMENDMENT

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Vitkova, J., Surda, P., DRAGOMIR, G., BREZEANU, A.I., BULMEZ, A.)

Biochar is a porous, carbon-rich material produced by heating of organic matter to temperatures between 300 °C and 1000 °C in an environment with limited or no oxygen. During the past decade, numerous articles focusing on the use of biochar have been published, but have shown inconsistent results. Reactions in the soil after the addition of biochar depend on the characteristics of biochar, soil, climate and soil-inhabiting organisms. However, due to high variability in the quality of biochar, its effects on soils ...

IDENTIFICATION OF ACCUMULATION FACTORS OF HEAVY METALS IN THE EURO-ARCTIC SOILS

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Nikitina, M., Popova, L., Pogurschi, E., Dragotoiu, T.)

The ecological situation of the Arctic and sub-Arctic areas has been given special attention due to their extremely vulnerable environment. In comparison with other areas, the Arctic remains a clean environment, but heavy metals occupy a special place among priority pollutants. There are a lot of studies of heavy metals in the soil, but not enough information on the joint content and physicochemical factors that affect the metals accumulation in the Arctic soils. Therefore, this paper presents identification of co...
