GROWTH OF THE NORTH AMERICAN STURGEON ( POLYODON SPATHULA ) DURING THE POST-EMBRYONIC DEVELOPMENT PERIOD IN PROTECTED AREAS

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-10-01, Mioara Costache, Daniela Radu, Nino Marica, M. Costache, Mariana Cristina Arcade)

The article includes the results obtained in the growth experiments during the postembryonic development period of the North American sturgeon species Polyodon spathula. The experiments took place in the years 2020 and 2021. Sturgeon larvae aged 5 days old, obtained through artificial reproduction at SCDP Nucet, were stocked and raised until the age of 35 days in two variants, in concrete tanks (useful volume -120 m3 /tank), located in the pilot station intended for fish culture experiments from the SCDP Nucet gen...

THE EFFECT OF THE SLATINA ALUMINUM FACTORY OPERATION ON THE WATER TABLE IN THE VICINITY OF THE OLT RIVER

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-10-01, Victorita Radulescu)

The largest aluminum factory in Eastern Europe is located near Slatina. Before Romania acceded to the EU in 2007, many environmental protection rules were omitted in this area. The paper analyzes the water table pollution along the Olt River for about 15 km. There are considered the tributary flows on the river, the concentration of discharged pollutants, and the pumping regime from the catchment front. It is built at about 500 m from the river, on the left bank, parallel to the river, and consists of 44 wells, of...

EARLY REMEDIATION OF WASTEWATERS FROM ROMANIAN FOOD INDUSTRY: A CASE STUDY OF IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF DAIRY INDUSTRY WASTEWATER

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-12-27, Florina Radu, Sofia Popescu, Antoanela Cozma, A. Rinovetz, Bogdan Rădoi)

The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the role played by different wastewater treatment technologies in the dairy industry in the context of the challenges of sustainable development: water scarcity and conservation of water resources, the constant growth of the population and the costs of wastewater treatment in centralized systems, increasing constraints and stricter environmental protection regulations. In this sense, the efficiency of wastewater treatment plants belonging to a number of 8 factories was ...

WATER MANAGEMENT TO REDUCE FLOODS IN THE HYDROGRAPHIC BASIN BEGA-TIMI?

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-12-27, Laura Șmuleac, Hortensia Radulescu, Florin Imbrea, Adrian Şmuleac, Raul Pașcalău)

The climate change facing humanity requires two major and immediate solutions: the need to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions on the one hand, and on the other hand the need to adapt to the effects of climate change, given that these effects are already visible and unavoidable due to the inertia of the climate system. Romania is vulnerable to a number of natural climate and geological dangers: floods, droughts, extreme temperatures, the western part of the country registering over time some devastating fl...

NEW PROPOSED SOLUTION FOR MINIMIZING THE EFFECTS CAUSED BY REPEATED FLOODS

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Victorita Radulescu)

Romania faces floods every 2-3 years, followed by human and animal losses, and large flooded agricultural areas. There are rivers such as Siret, Crisul Repede, Cri?ul Negru, Ialomita with non-rehabilitated areas that have systematically caused damages in the last decade. Based on the latest measurements, the real transport capacity of natural course in high flow conditions and flood risk was estimated. In recent years, after the massive floods recorded in 2005, 2008, 2012, and 2018, there have been uncontrolled de...

THE INFLUENCE OF WATER LOSSES IN THE OPERATION OF THE WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM IN THE ROMANIAN BIG CITIES

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Victorita Radulescu)

In many cities from Romania, the water supply systems are very old, sometimes having over 60 years after their commissioning. Under these conditions, permanent large leakages are recorded. They are significant for the operator, influencing its economic performance and operating costs. The water supplier must understand the mechanism of water leaks and their influence on the performance of distribution network. The losses recorded by the system are unused for the purpose for which the supply was made, representing ...

NEW COMBINED MEMBRANE-ADSORPTION TECHNOLOGY FOR PURIFICATION OF WATER FROM ORGANIC POLLUTANTS

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Boyko Tsyntsarski, T. Budinova, A. Sarbu, T. Sandu, A. Radu)

Adsorption of p-nitrophenol from aqueous solution by combined membrane-adsorption technology was studied. Activated carbon samples were synthesized on the base of industrial by products (coal tar pitch) and biomass. Synthetic activated carbon synthesized from mixture of coal tar pitch and furfural by thermo-oxidation treatment with sulfuric acid at 200oC, and subsequent carbonization in nitrogen atmosphere at 600 oC, followed by hydro-carbonyzation at 800oC. Biomass based activated carbon was obtained by hydro-car...
