An analysis of the stratigraphic positions of the Neogene coal facies in Romania and in the countries around lead to a first cyclo-stratigraphic coherent scheme for the Neogene in the Central Paratethys (?icleanu et al., 2001). This was based upon the warm and cold phases of a climatic cycle with 4.1 ma period highlighted by us since 1998 (Prague), named ?Valach climatic cycle? at that time.
