This paper presents the results of a study of a model site of the settlement Ksizovo-1 (XXIV-XXIII centuries BC) in the forest-steppe zone. The research object is located in the Lipetsk region on the floodplain terrace of the left bank of the river Snova, right tributary of the Don River. Degradation of soil cover is one of the most important problems in modern environmental management. In this paper, the results of field studies of changes in the dry steppe soil cover depending on grazing intensity are presented. The study area is located within the dry-steppe zone of the Russian Plain on the western slope of the Yergeninskaya Upland in Remontnesky District of Rostov Region.
