COMPENSATING FOR MOISTURE DEFICIT IN BLUEBERRY (VACCINIUM CORYMBOSUM) USING ARBUSCULAR MYCORRHIZA UNDER CENTRAL EUROPEAN CONDITIONS.

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Jan Mezey, Adrian Selnekovic, Dusan Igaz, Viliam Barek, Tomas Holota)

Arbuscular mycorrhiza, a widespread mutualistic association between fungi of the phylum Glomeromycota and plant roots, plays an important role in improving plant nutrition and tolerance to environmental stress. Through this symbiosis, fungi supply mineral nutrients and enhance resistance to drought and pathogens, while receiving assimilates from the host plant. This study was conducted on a commercial plantation of blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) in southwestern Slovakia. The plantation was inoculated with mycorr...

POSSIBILITIES FOR INCREASING BLUEBERRY YIELDS WITHOUT USING NUTRITION AND FERTILIZATION SYSTEMS

(STEF92 Technology, 2025-08-15, Jan Mezey, Dušan Igaz, Viliam Bárek, Kusnierikova Rebeka, Selnekovic Adrian)

The health of soil, groundwater, air and the entire environment of inhabited areas depends largely on the intensity of agriculture and its systems. In order to achieve the desired quantity, quality and economic profitability, it is necessary to apply large amounts of unnatural, often chemical substances in the production process in order to achieve the desired and profitable harvests. These are mainly industrial fertilizers, which, when used for a long time, can contaminate all components of the environment. Altho...

STRATEGIES FOR MONITORING PLANT WATER STRESS

(STEF92 Technology, 2023-10-01, Viliam Bárek, Jan Hořák, Dušan Igaz, Oliver Obročník, Vladimír Kišš)

One of the main lines of research on the impact of climate change is the study of drought and its effects on agricultural production. The aim of this study is to determine the key parameter of plant expression in relation to water stress and soil hydrophysical properties, thereby more accurately determining the need for real-time soil profile water enhancement. The research was conducted from 2019 to 2021 at the Nove Zamky experimental site, with research on royal walnut (Juglans regia L.) During the study, we clo...

EFFECT OF BIOCHAR APPLICATION ON CO2 EMISSION IN RELATIONSHIP WITH SOIL PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

(STEF92 Technology, 2022-11-15, Tatijana Kotuš, Jan Hořák, Katarína Drgoňová, Dušan Igaz)

Biochar application to agriculture soil has been recommended as a strategy to reduce increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations and mitigate climate change. Significant suppression of soil CO2 emissions following biochar amendments has been demonstrated in short-term laboratory incubations by several authors, yet evidence from long-term field trials has been contradictory. This study investigates whether biochar addition to the soil could suppress soil CO2 emission under field conditions after 6-th...

INFLUENCE OF BIOCHAR FROM PAPER FIBER SLUDGE AND CEREAL HUSKS ON SOIL WATER CONTENT

(STEF92 Technology, 2019-06-20, Dušan Igaz)

The paper is focused on the effect of biochar amendment on the soil water content. Biochar used for the field experiment was produced from paper fiber sludge and grain husks (1:1 w/w) by pyrolysis at 550°C for 30 minutes. The field study was conducted at the experimental site in Nitra region Slovakia (lat. 48°19?00??, lon. 18°09?00??). The biochar was incorporated into the soil (0-10 cm) in spring 2014. The plots (4m x 6m) were organized in randomized block design. The experiment consisted of 5 levels of biochar a...
