POTENTIAL USE OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY FROM ABANDONED COAL MINES (REMINING-LOWEX PROJECT)

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, P. OP’T Veld, E. J. A. ERWIN Roijen, K. Bojadgieva, A. Benderev, V. Ristov, T. Kehaiov)

Rocks deep below the surface store heat and for every 100 m in depth the temperature increases by approximately 3oC. When the mines were closed, the mine galleries flooded. The heat of the rocks warms water, which is used as input to heat pumps for heating and cooling of buildings. The Remining-Lowex Project aims to demonstrate the use of water in abandoned coalmines as a source of renewable energy and to prove its economic viability. This new approach for utilization of sustainable energy from worked out coalmine...

MANAGING OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS DURING PROSPECTING AND EXPLORATION FOR OIL AND GAS – IMPLEMENTATION OF GOOD INTERNATIONAL PRACTICE

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2007, V. Georgiev, A. Benderev, I. Ilieva, L. Marinova)

Prospecting and exploration activities for oil and gas in a number of cases are connected with some environmental impacts in the location of their implementation. Depending on the applied prospecting and exploration methods – geophysical or drilling methods or combination of both - the environmental impacts comprise mainly of: air emissions from the equipment engines, short-term damages to land and soil, contamination of surface and ground water, waste generation, cuttings in forests, etc. The implemented comple...

PECULIARITIES OF THE GROUNDWATER FLOW REGIME IN REGION OF THE KCM-PLOVDIV

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2004, A. Benderev, I. Petkov, B. Mihaylova)

In the connection with work on the International project NATO Science for Peace 973739 "Dynamics, evolution and limitation of heavy metal water pollution in the Plovdiv region (Bulgaria)" a complex ecological investigation was accomplished. The main parts of the work have been related to clarification of the hydrogeological peculiarities in order to assess conditions and risk of contamination of the ground waters. For this purposes in the period 2001-2003 a monitoring network for seasonal and monthly observations ...

CHEMICAL SPECIATION IN SOLUTION AND SUSPENSION OF METAL POLLUTANTS AND AS IN WATERS, CONTAMINATED BY METALLURGICAL AND MINING ACTIVITIES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2003, E.N. Pentcheva, A. Benderev, N. Velitchkova, L. Van’T Dack)

Chemical species of existence and migration of water metal pollutants in solution and suspension in the significantly contaminated Plovdiv – Assenovgrad area are identified in their dynamics. Underground, surface and technological waters in their geochemical context are investigated (more than 2 000 data) as a ground of the speciation study (30 trace and 24 major elements). All the trace elements analytical researches are carried out by HR-ICP-AES Jobin Yvon ULTIMA 2 and the speciation study – by WATEQ 4F adap...
