A SALINE SOIL BETWEEN MELIORATION AND RENATURATION

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Daniela Răducu)

The paper emphasizes the ecological restoration (renaturation) of the natural conditions of a saline soil, which was previously under long term melioration. The soil is a Salinic Pelic Alluvic Sodosol with relict gleization, covering an Alkali soil (according to SRTS-2012). The site is located in Moldova Tableland, where Tma is 584.6?C and Pma is 9.5 mm. The depth of the groundwater table is about 1.80 m, with frequent seasonal fluctuations and weak-moderate mineralization. The soil had a polyphasic evolution, bot...

BINARY PROGRAMMING MODELS FOR THE SERVER CONSOLIDATION PROBLEM IN DATA CENTERS

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Delia Radulescu)

The last decade has witnessed an exponential increasing in the number and the size of data centers. This expansion was driven by the increasing demand for digital products and services from the various sectors of the economy. Data center operators are faced with an increasing pressure for managing their facilities more efficiently and cost effectively such that they achieve 100 percent uptime. This is a difficult task to overcome, taking into account that energy consumption is the fastest growing component of data...

EFFECT OF SOME PROBIOTIC BACTERIA ON THE REDUCTION OF AFLATOXIN B1 PRODUCTION IN STORED ARABICA COFFEE BEANS

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-11-20, Florina Radu)

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) contamination of coffee beans continues to be a serious issue regarding livestock productivity and human health. AFB1 (secondary metabolites produced by a larger number of Aspergillus spp.) is classified as a Group I carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer due to the considerable risk to human and animal health. Therefore, monitoring of this toxin by using probiotics during storage became a challenge due to the demand for reduced use of chemical preservatives by consumers....

IMPACT OF AIR POLLUTION ON HEAVY METALS CONTENT OF HONEY

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-11-20, Hortensia Radulescu)

Honey, produced by honeybees (Apis mellifera) through nectar plants processing, has a distinct composition depending on the floral sources, regional and climatic conditions. Heavy metals in honey are of interest mainly for quality control and nutritional aspect along with the estimation of the potential environmental contamination. In order to estimate the impact of air pollution on the honey quality, the level of some selected heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, chromium, iron, zinc and manganese in honey was ass...

INACTIVATION OF ST. AUREUS AND ESCHERICHIA COLI BY ESSENTIAL OIL FROM SAGE (SALVIA SPECIES) IN TELEMEA CHEESE

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-11-20, Florina Radu)

Salvia species are parts of the daily routine of many communities in different regions of the world (Southern and Central Europe, North America, Middle East, etc.). Many research studies show a strong correlation between the concentration of some biologically active substances such as terpenoids, alkaloids, polyphenols and their antimicrobial action. The presence of these chemical compounds resulting from the secondary metabolism of the plant has determined that sage is of great interest to the food industry and i...

INFLUENCE OF HEAT TREATMENT ON CORROSION RESISTANCE OF NANOCOMPOZITE NI-P-AL2O3 LAYERS

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Tamara RADU)

The research consisted in obtaining Ni-P and Ni-P-Al2O3 coatings followed by heat treatment and characterization of heat treated and untreated layers. The layers were deposited on the steel strip, by electroless method to certain process parameters. To obtain the Ni-P-Al2O3 nanocomposite layers, 5 g/L Al2O3 particles of 20 nm were introduced into the nickel bath, and it has been worked with the same parameters as to obtain the Ni-P layer. The samples were heat treated at 300 0C, 400 0C and 5000C for one hour in a ...

NEW METRICS FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN DATA CENTERS

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Delia Radulescu)

The last decades witnessed an explosive increase of the demand for digital data in the economy. This led to a significant growth in the number and the sizes of data centers. The energy used by the data centers has increased dramatically. This situation determined the quest for metrics that measures energy efficiency in data centers. A classical metric for measuring energy efficiency in data centers is PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness). It was introduced in 2006 by C. Malone and Christian Belady. It is defined as the...

PEDOBIOPLASMA ILLUVIATION - A NEW THEORY

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Daniela Răducu)

The paper emphasizes the deep influence of soil biota on pedobioplasma illuviation and on the evolution of illuvial coatings formed in soils with Fe-humic-clayey pedobioplasma. In the studied soils, two main types of pedofeatures were noticed, which pointed out that soil biota initiated and controlled the important pedogenetic processes: coprolites (pedofeatures generated by biological activity), as well as illuvial coating (textural pedofeatures generated by illuviation). Two types of coprolites were dominant: a)...
