A MULTI-CRITERI METHODOLOGY FOR OPTIMAL CORNER REFLECTOR DEPLOYMENT USING INSAR COHERENCE, LAND USE, AND TERRAIN SLOPE: A CASE STUDUY OF THE PAUTE INTEGRAL HYDROPOWER COMPLEX (ECUADOR)

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Diego Capa, Daniel Garces Leon, Astrid Ramirez Lopez, Jessica Robles Jimenez, Kenny Escobar Segovia)

The application of C-band InSAR techniques over densely vegetated areas faces critical limitations due to rapid temporal decorrelation, which requires the deployment of corner reflectors (CR) to ensure stable control points. In this context, traditional site selection criteria are often empirical and tend to overlook the spatiotemporal variability of interferometric coherence. In this study, a multicriteria methodology based on a spatial decision-making framework is proposed to optimize the selection of corner ref...

HYDROCHEMICAL AND ISOTOPIC CHARACTERIZATION OF WATER RESOURCES IN A MINING-IMPACTED REGION OF SOUTHERN ECUADOR

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Karla Villamar-Marazita, Daniel Garces, Johanna Zambrano-Anchundia, Maria Silva-Aspiazu, Tomas Vitvar)

Mining activities can significantly affect water resources by altering their chemical composition and promoting the mobilization of contaminants in aquatic systems. In this context, this study analyzed the hydrochemical and isotopic characteristics of hydric resources in a mining-impacted region of southern Ecuador in order to identify the main processes controlling water chemistry, determine the origin, and identify potential sources of contamination. Eighteen water samples were collected (10 surface water and 8 ...

Camilo Ponce Enriquez is in the southwest coastal zone of Ecuador, and it is surrounded by 4 river basins (Gala, Tenguel, Siete and Pagua) with an area of 1,780 km2. Mining has been the main economic activity since 1980 and is classified as Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining Activity. However, since 2000s there is evidence of contamination by heavy metals in water and sediments due to irregular mining practices and inefficiency environmental-s regulations. Despite the evidence, there are not enough scientific studie...
