Many fungi, including keratinolytic species, occurring in sewage sludge and sludge-amended soils possess potential pathogenic properties to humans and animals. For this reason, apart from bacteria, zooparasites and viruses, these fungi pose health risk to wastewater treatment plant and agriculture workers.
