IRON AND MANGANESE REMOVAL BY ZEOLITE

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, S. Dimitrova, I. Kostova, K. Ivanova, S. Lazarova)

Surface and ground waters are used for potable water supply. Some of they contain iron and manganese. The presence of these impurities in natural waters is undesirable due to their tendency to oxidize and precipitate under a variety of conditions, causing both aesthetic and treatment water problems. The possibility to use zeolite for iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) removal in low concentrations from water is examined in this paper. Ion-exchange process to the maximum allowable limits of 0.3 mg/L for iron and 0.05 mg/...

PROGNOSIS FOR FIXED BED CLIPTILOLITE PERFORMANCE IN THE PROCESS OF METAL IONS REMOVAL

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2006, S. Dimitrova, I. Kostova, S. Petrova)

Laboratory investigations on zinc ions removal from model solution in a column with fixed bed zeolite clinoptilolite were conducted. Experimental dynamic curves for sorption depending on the bed height of zeolite and velocity of treated solution were received. The main constant parameters characterizing the process at breakthrough were defined. It was established that the bed column volumes of solution and the capacity at breakthrough increase with increasing of contact time, whereas sorbent usage rate decreases. ...

TRACE ELEMENTS IN SULPHIDE AND SULPHATE MINERALS IN COAL AND THEIR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2003, I. Kostova)

The trace elements in the main sulphide and sulphate minerals in coal were determined. Coals with different degree of coalification (ranging from lignite to subbituminous) from three important Bulgarian coal basins – Maritza East, Pernik and Balkan have been investigated. Heavy liquids and hand picking under a binocular stereomicroscope were applied to concentrate the sulphur-bearing minerals present in coal. Trace elements in them were detected by inductively coupled plasma – atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP...
