The Danube Delta is a wetland of global importance, providing several ecosystem services. The sustainable development (i.e., economic, social and environmental) in the area depends on the health, quality and quantity of the natural resources. Water is one of the most important resources. Largely, the Danube Delta, which receives the input of water and sediment flux from the Danube River, gathered form its entire basin, may experiences lower water quality due to natural and anthropogenic factors, from basin to loca...

CONSIDERATIONS ON WATER QUALITY, BENTHIC FAUNA AND SEDIMENT DISTRIBUTION OF THE ROMANIAN BLACK SEA COASTAL LAKES

(STEF92 Technology, 2019-06-20, Ion Stănescu)

The coastal lakes of the Romanian Black Sea shore comprise significant ecosystems, characterized by marine, brackish and freshwater assemblages. Therefore, these lakes may be seen as biodiversity huge reservoirs and natural bio-filters. They offer natural resources linked to their high biological production and productivity. This paper is presenting the current research state in the field of quality assessment of the aquatic ecosystems, with special regards to the lakes occurring in the southern Romanian Black Sea...

GEOLOGICAL AND ECOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE TECHIRGHIOL LAKE (SE ROMANIA): STATE OF THE ART

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Ion Stănescu)

The Techirghiol Lake, with a total surface of 1,462 ha, a length of 7,500 m and a maximum depth of 12 m, is situated on the NW Black Sea coast, south to the Constanta town. The lake is located in SE Dobrogea, a region that displays the highest density of lakes in Romania. These lakes were formed during the Quaternary, in relation with the Black Sea level fluctuations. Due to the low-level waters of the Lake Techirghiol, relative to the Black Sea one, the salty marine waters periodically invaded the lake. Genetical...
