MOISTURE RISK MAPPING: MACHINE LEARNING APPROACHES USING UAV MULTISPECTRAL IMAGERY FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE MONITORING

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Ivan Ivanov, Silviya Filipova, Stefan Vlaykov)

This study investigated a nondestructive, remote-sensing-based testing method for detecting harmful wetness in immovable cultural heritage structures using unmanned aerial vehicle multispectral imagery combined with machine learning algorithms. The multispectral data were captured over a historic building with DJI Mavic 3M UAV, and supervised machine learning classifiers were applied to identify moisture-risk areas across the building’s facades. The spectral range of the employed multispectral sensor did not all...

UAV LIDAR APPLICATION FOR ESTIMATING POSSIBILITY FOR ELECTRICAL POWERLINE DAMAGE, DUE TO POTENTIAL TREEFALL

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Stefan Vlaykov, Dobromir Filipov, Ivan Ivanov)

The government electrical company – ESO manages and monitors 16 000 km powerlines in Bulgaria. In this paper the main focus is on monitoring forestry corridors, which are used to provide free of encroachment space for safe electrical power transmission. Those open spaces ensure that no tree or such can be near the conductor enough to cause induction of energy between a tree and a conductor, which is the main reason for wild fires and electrical power shortages. This paper presents a methodology for systematic mo...

NATURAL REGENERATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT IN THE AREA OF THE OLD KRUMOVO IRON MINE IN SOUTHEAST BULGARIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Ivan Ivanov, Marinela Panayotova)

The ore extraction from Krumovo deposit, located at the northern periphery of the Manastir heights in Southeast Bulgaria started in 1906 and continued till 1986. The ore comprised Fe3O4 with admixtures of sulfides such as pyrite, pyrrhotite, marcasite and chalcopyrite. Open pits and underground workings were used. The excavations severely degraded the habitats, vegetation and waters on an area of about 3 km2. By 1986 waste rock (comprising hydrothermally altered basic magmatic rocks, such as gabbro or diorites, ma...
