HYDROCARBON SYNTHESIS FROM FATTY ACID FEEDSTOCK AND STRUCTURE MODIFICATION OF SATURATED AND UNSATURATED CYCLIC COMPOUNDS VIA HYDROTREATMENT OVER RUTHENIUM CATALYST

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Ilze Māliņa, Kristaps Māliņš, Mihails Strods-Vavilovs)

Catalytic activity of commercial ruthenium catalyst (ruthenium (5%) supported on alumina (Ru5%Al2O3)) on renewable hydrocarbon production from stearic and oleic acid via hydrotreatment was investigated. Moreover, the effect of Ru5%/Al2O3 on aromatic (ethylbenzene) and saturated cyclic hydrocarbon (cyclohexane) structure modification under the same reaction conditions was determined. Full conversion of fatty acid feedstock into pure hydrocarbons were achieved over ruthenium catalyst. Linear alkanes (n-pentane to n-...

PRODUCTION OF BIODIESEL USING K2CO3, K3PO4, NA2CO3 AND NA3PO4 AS ALKALINE CATALYSTS.

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Kristaps Māliņš)

The effect of K2CO3, K3PO4 Na2CO3, and Na3PO4 on transesterification of rapeseed oil (RO) with methanol was investigated to evaluate their potential for application as biodiesel production catalysts. All anhydrous alkaline salts catalyze transesterification reaction. Higher yield than 95% of rapeseed oil methyl esters (RFAME) was attained in the reaction time from 10 to 300 min. Potassium salts have significantly higher catalytic performance than Na2CO3 and Na3PO4. However, potassium salt recovery from reaction mi...

BIODIESEL PRODUCTION VIA INTERESTERIFICATION OF RAPESEED OIL WITH ALKYL ACETATE IN PRESENCE OF POTASSIUM tert-BUTOXIDE

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Valdis Kampars, Kristaps Malins, Zane Sustere, Ruta Kampare)

The dominating feedstock for biodiesel production is still a vegetable oil and cost of the oil composes 80-85% of the production costs, therefore the development of the more efficient methods for biofuel production from vegetable oil remains crucial. The transesterification of oil proceeds with the production of side product: glycerol, which cannot be a part of the composition of fuel. Chemical interesterification of oil with alkyl acetate produce a mixture of fatty acid esters and triacetin. Triacetin is a fuel b...
