The golden jackal (Canis aureus), a mesocarnivore, is currently spreading from eastern to western Europe. In Europe, the golden jackal is considered an invasive species, as in recent years it has managed to populate extensive territories in Greece, Turkey, Slovenia, Serbia and Hungary.
