PRELIMINARY STUDY OF VIABILITY OF WATER TROUGH BARRIERS USE IN SPANISH COAL MINING INDUSTRY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2009, L. M. Pejic, J. G. Torrent, K. Lebecki, C. F. Ramon, J. C. Loya)

Methane emission into the underground mine environment frequently leads to gas accumulations and therefore increases explosion risk. This risk is very serious since primary gas explosion can act as an ignition source of the secondary coal dust explosion with devastating consequences, generating disastrous events in underground mines. In most cases fatalities occur at locations far from the source of the explosion due to the effects of a propagating large flame and an intense pressure wave. The objective of this pr...

STUDY OF POROSITY AND PERMEABILITY OF AIR FILTER MATERIAL IN RESPIRATORY PROTECTION FILTERS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2008, C. G. Olmedo, E. Q. AragСѓn, J. G. Torrent, L. M. Pejic, C. F. RamСѓn)

The objective is the study of filtering tissue permeability and the characterization by means of permeability tests, of the process of coal particles retention in breath protection filters. The porosity of a filter, defined as the ratio between the void volume inside its fibres and the total volume, is a static parameter that provides point source information about the initial conditions of the filtering tissue. When excessive deposition of particles on the fibres happens, there is an increase of resistance to the...
