Conveyor belt slip on a driving drum belongs to dangerous accidents that may result in a fire and burning of the rubber belt cover and drum coating under not well described conditions. To prevent such situations temperature of the rubber coating is often monitored by optical methods. We argue that these optical measurements may not monitor the initial phase of belt slipping thoroughly enough and that they cannot predict the incoming danger.
