THE VAL RONCAGLIA LANDSLIDE (NORTHERN ITALY): FROM CONCEPTUAL TO NUMERICAL MODELLING

(STEF92 Technology, 2024-11-15, Paola Gattinoni, Angelo Molteni)

This paper focuses on the Deep Seated Gravitational Slope Deformation (DSGSD) affecting Val Roncaglia (Northern Italy). Based on the state of the art about DSGSD, the study area was characterized from geologic, tectonic, geomorphological, and hydrogeological points of view in order to reconstruct the conceptual model of the slope (geometry, geomaterials and their properties). Moreover, based on the available monitoring data, the landslide kinematics was pointed out together with its possible evolution and the rela...

FROM HYDROGEOLOGICAL HAZARD IDENTIFICATION TO RISK ASSESSMENT IN TUNNELLING: AN EXAMPLE IN NORTHERN ITALY

(STEF92 Technology, 2020-09-20, Paola Gattinoni, Laura Scesi)

Hydrogeological hazards are very common when dealing with underground excavations, and they can bring about a damage both for the tunnel (e.g., tunnel inflow) and for the environment (e.g., water resource depletion). The paper proposes an example of the contribution of hydrogeology to risk management in tunnelling. In particular, the two following issues are addressed: how tunnel inflow can be assessed, and how its impact on water resources can be quantified. These issues are discussed based on the state of the ar...

THE INFLUENCE OF SHEAR AND FRACTURE ZONES WHEN TUNNELING IN DEEP-SEATED LANDSLIDE AREAS

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Paola Gattinoni)

Tunnel excavation in mountainous or sloping regions can reactivate or accelerate landslide phenomena. On its turn, tunnel excavation can be affected if it crosses weak rocks in landslide-prone areas. In the present study the interaction between tunnelling and slope stability is analysed in presence of Deep-Seated Gravitational Slope Deformation (DSGSD). At this aim a case study is considered, located in northern Italy (Central Alps), where a landslide has been reactivated along the border of a wide DSGSD, close to...
