ASSESSMENT OF HAZARDOUS HOUSEHOLD WASTE GENERATION IN EASTERN EUROPE

(STEF92 Technology, 2019-06-20, Vitalii Ishchenko)

Hazardous household waste (HHW) is a small but the most dangerous fraction of household waste. Different studies estimate their content in household waste from 0.1 to 1%. In Eastern Europe, due to the low efficiency of separate household waste collection, most of the hazardous household waste is mixed with other waste and are mainly disposed in landfills. A thorough analysis of the literature on HHW has been carried out. Statistical data on HHW generation in the Eastern Europe countries (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, ...

TOXIC SUBSTANCES IN HAZARDOUS HOUSEHOLD WASTE

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Vitalii Ishchenko)

Many countries have no waste separation and mixed household waste accumulated mostly in landfills could pose serious environmental risk if landfills do not fulfill the requirements. The risk becomes much higher with increasing of hazardous components quantities in household waste (having hazardous properties and containing toxic chemicals). These include batteries, fluorescent lamps, chlorine-containing plastics, aromatic compounds and many others. Some hazardous waste are toxic themselves (waste oils) and some ar...

COMPARATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS OF WASTE PROCESSING METHODS IN PAPER RECYCLING

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Vitalii Ishchenko, Volodymyr Pohrebennyk, Anna Kochanek, Grzegorz Przydatek)

The paper deals with processing the waste generated in paper recycling: initial waste of paper mill and sludge after wastewater treatment. The authors have analyzed characteristics of the waste of paper recycling generated in paper recycling plant near Kyiv (Ukraine): calorific value, moisture and ash content. The heating value of waste of paper recycling range from 6.5 to 24 kJ/kg and significantly depends on moisture content. Potential environmental impact depends largely on the physical and chemical characteris...
