THE IMPACT OF THE EXISTENCE AND OPERATION OF THE IMPOUNDMENT AT POSA ON THE CONTAMINATION OF WATER AND BIOTA

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Cech, V., Fazekasova, D., Krokusova, J., Blahut, M., Istok, R.)

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the negative impact of the impoundment Po?a on landscape adjacent to it. The impoundment is used for the deposition of coal ashes and other sludgy waste material from industrial processing of former Chemko Str??ske factory as well as the deposition of sludge water from waste water treatment plant. Both published and unpublished materials were used to support our research. The field trip involved data collection and was designed to find out the real condition of the impoundment ...

STUDY OF THE FORMS OF ARSENIC IN WATER AND BOTTOM SEDIMENTS

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Demenchuk, E., Krylova, O., Pivovarova, I., Chubenko, M.)

This paper presents the geochemical forms of arsenic that are present in bottom sediments of rivers and surface waters under various oxidative conditions. In summer, in the rivers with the high anthropogenic load the redox potential of bottom sediments varies from 78 mV to 255 mV (at a temperature of 16-20?C), which corresponds to oxidative and mixed oxidative-reductive conditions. It is shown that under these conditions arsenic is present in the form of insoluble arsenous acid, partially ionized arsenic acid and ...

WATER TREATMENT PLANT RE-TEHNOLOGISATION, STUDY CASE A TOWN WITH 6 000 INHABITANTS

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Dumitru, P., Girbaciu, A., Girbaciu, C., Bitea, F.)

Through this study and researches carried out in this paper, it was attempted to highlight the need for the re-equipment of the treatment station in a town with 6000 inhabitants due to the high exploitation costs, the lack of a constant discharge that satisfies the local water requirements and the quality of the drinking water currently distributed fully meet the applicable drinking law. This article presents also the exploitation optimization (from the energy point of view) of a drinking water treatment plant, ba...

EFFICIENT USE OF WATER IN AGRICULTURAL CROPS BASED ON SATELLITE INFORMATION

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Csiba, A., Gyoker, E., Gergatz, E., Berindean, A. D., Tatarinova, T.)

In agriculture, drought is a particularly harmful natural factor. In some regions, it manifests in most agricultural crops by a moisture deficiency or an unfavorable distribution of rainfall in relation to crop requirements. To reduce the effects of drought and increase production in agriculture, it is necessary to irrigate the controlled supply of soil with additional amounts of water than those received under natural conditions, so as to ensure high and constant agricultural output.Plant development is determined...

ALTERNATIVES FOR WATER SUPPLY IN POPULATED CENTERS IN CRISIS SITUATIONS OR ACCIDENTAL POLLUTION

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Dumitru, P., Girbaciu, A., Girbaciu, C., Lucut, M.)

Climate change will lead to an intensification of the hydrological cycle and can have a major impact on regional water resources. A change in water volume and distribution will affect both groundwater and surface water reserves usable in industry, domestic activities, irrigation, navigation, aquatic ecosystems, hydropower and some recreational activities. Changes in the total amount of rainfall, in their frequency and intensity, directly affect the size and times of floods and droughts. The impacts of climate chan...

ISOCHORIC-ISOBARIC PRESERVATION IN WATER

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Buicu, Corneliu-Florin)

Preservation at positive temperatures is limited in time. The common technique to reduce metabolism is by reducing the temperature below ambient, using refrigeration or cryogenics. Therefore, these methods are used to preserve biological matter (cells, tissues, organs, vegetables, fruits etc.). Preservation at negative temperatures is possible with limitations in time and imposes also other biotechnological challenges. Long term preservation below freezing temperatures is not successful yet for organs and tissues....

CONTAMINANT DISPERSION AND SOURCE IDENTIFICATION IN SMALL RIVERS, INVESTIGATED ON EXAMPLE OF RADONJA RIVER, CROATIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2018-06-20, Franciskovic_Bilinski, Stanislav)

Assessment of selected (trace) elements and nitrate along the 26.7 km long Radonja River (Croatia) was examined with the purpose of testing the ability for small rivers to serve as a model for identification of sources and dispersion of common environmental contaminants. The Radonja River rises and flows through specific geological region of the Petrova Gora Mt. (507 m a.s.l.). It is located in the middle part of Croatia, with the Vojni? town (~5,000 inhabit.) as the largest settlement along the whole river course...
