In this paper relationships of vessels and the environment, in which exploitation tasks are carried out, were presented. It was shown how important is rational choice of propulsion unit to construct a vessel which should be provided with proper energy to do the tasks given. The relationships between vessels and water environment in which they do exploitation tasks are presented in this paper.
