AN INVESTIGATION INTO LABORATORY ANALYSIS FOR THE PERFORMANCE OF ANCHOR FOOTING IN NON SWELLING SOIL

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, A. K. Agarwal, S. Shanker, P.B. Kulkarni)

In the present study behavior of different footing anchors in reinforced soil subjected to vertical pullout loads were investigated. The plate anchors were considered as footings with their axis vertical and the study was made to plate anchors in cohesive non swelling clays. To carry out these studies number of laboratory tests were conducted on anchors of different shapes (circular, square and rectangular) and sizes in reinforced and non reinforced soil using three different Geosynthetics. It was concluded that o...

SCOPE OF COAL BED METHANE DRAINAGE IN INDIA

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2007, A. K. Agarwal, S. Shanker)

The effectiveness of methane drainage lies in the implementation of a process to siphon methane gas (from the ground) to create a source for fueling electric power generation. This process can be seen on the principle of BAT (“Best Available Technology”). Applied BAT when combined within an effective and efficient Environmental Management System results in benefit to both the environment and profitability. In India too, methane in recent time has been accepted as a gas fuel of future. Although lagging behind i...

COAL BED METHANE DRAINAGE IN INDIA: AN ECO FRIENDLY FUEL FOR FUTURE

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2003, A. K. Agarwal, P. K Jha, P.J. Murodiya)

Coal, Oil and Natural gas account for 30\%, 31\% and 2\% respectively of the world’s total energy. In India, coal based energy is the main source of energy and its energy demand is increasing at the rate of 9\% per year. The supply on the other hand is lagging behind. If this trend continuous, it is estimated that by the year 2022, India would be required to spend Rs. 860 billion per year to meet its energy demand. World attention has recently started shifting towards methane, which can be exploited from the coa...

MANAGEMENT OF POST MINING LAND AND WATER IN INDIAN MINES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2002, A. K. Agarwal, P. K Jha)

India is a growing economy with sizeable industrialisation and mining sector. About 500 million tons of minerals are produced in the country annually with 80 \% of coal. Almost entire quantity of industrial minerals are coming from open cast mining. Indian population is more than one billion which is 16 \% of world population residing only in fortieth part of the global area. There is no doubt the environment is of greatest relevance to India. Indian economy is based on Agriculture, which can not grow without ampl...
